Assign variables and write the verbal sentence as a numerical expression.

• Mr. Quintanar is 10 years older than Mrs. Scull.

• Mr. Razo has taught 20 years fewer than Mr. Ellis.

• Mr. Forsythe is 13 years more than one-fourth Mrs. Dolezal’s age.

Assign variables and write the verbal sentence as a numerical expression.

• Mr. Lewis may be 17 years older than Mrs. Scull. L = Mr. Lewis; S = Mrs. Scull L = S + 17

• Mr. Razo has taught 20 years fewer than Mr. Ellis. R = Mr. Razo; E = Mr. Ellis R = E - 20

• Mr. Forsythe is 13 years more than one-fourth Mrs. Dolezal’s age. F = Mr. Forsythe; D = Mrs. Dolezal F = 1/4D + 13

• The number of students in Ms. Macias class is 5 more than double the number of candy bags she recently purchased.

S = Students; C = Candy S = 2C + 5
