By creating conditions in which safe behaviour becomes a habit By stating clear expectations By creating a work environment that helps work safely By creating an intervention culture that is accepted by all

  4. Sense • Can you see it?E.g.Open valve, driver without seatbelts • Can you smell it?E.g. Dangerous gasses • Can you feel it?E.g. Unusual vibrations, extremely warm equipment • Can you hear it?E.g. Vehicle coming from behind, machine making strange noises You cannot always sense all the hazards • Inexperienced, tired, stressed worker • Odourless gasses (carbon monoxide) • People breaking rules • People with extensive experience who become ‘blind’ to the hazards

  5. Know Do you understand your hazards? • What are they? • Where do they originate from? • When? How can they affect you and others around you? • How serious are they? • Can they kill? Are you afraid of them? • Do you remember their full potential? • Are you wearing your PPE when near them?

  6. Knowing the Risks What are the hazards in your work? Who is at risk? What are the consequences? Which worry you most? How can you prevent it from happening?

  7. Knowing What Is Hazardous Identify high, medium and low risk hazard • What outcomes are most likely? • What is the worst case scenario? What are the risks? • Where do they fit on the Risk Assessment Matrix?
