In the Narrative In the Heart of the Sea, Nathaniel Philbrick uses a shocking and horrific tone. For example, “For the last three weeks, their bodies had been consuming themselves. Without and natural padding to cushion their bones, they found the simple act of sitting to be a torture. Their arms had shrink to sticks as their muscles withered, making it difficult to hold, let alone pull, the oars. As man after man collapsed in a slumped heap it became impossible to continue” (Philbrick 133). • As you read this quote you begin to feel that you too, are going through the same thing. The tone makes this book an even better read.
