  3. World War I • When? 1914-1918 • Where? Europe • Why? Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian Throne. • Who was President of U.S.A.? Woodrow Wilson Question #79

  4. World War I • The war that ends all wars. It killed a whole generation of young people. • Germany said they would sink any ships approaching Germany or Ireland of every kind, every flag and any destination, merciless and lack of compassion . • President Woodrow Wilson said “ it is a challenge for all mankind” “neutrality is no longer possible when the peace of the world is involved”

  5. World War II • When? 1939-1945 • Where? In Europe • Why? Japan attacked Pearl Harbor , Hawaii. • What? U.S. declare war to Japan, and next day Germany and Italy declare war to U.S. Question # 81 • Who was President? Franklin Roosevelt Question#80

  6. If the President dies; who becomes President? The Vice-president. • Roosevelt died in 1945 and Harry Truman took office . • Truman ordered to drop the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima and second in Nagasaki to force them to surrender and end war Eisenhower was a general in this war Question # 82

  11. (Persian) Gulf War • When? 1990-1991 • Who was President? George H.W. Bush (Herbert Walker) • Who? Iraq VS Coalition Force of 34 nations, mostly United States and United Kingdom . • Why? To drive Iraq out of Kuwait and to protect Saudi Arabia, main supplier of oil.

  12. Human rights abuses under Saddam Hussein. • Biological, chemical and nuclear weapons (?)
