  3. Raising (cont.) • “Post” • Junior member takes a step, executes right face • (Quickly raise colors right side up) • Hand Salute • Junior member of detail grasps halyard in left hand and executes salute when flag • “Ready, Two” • Cut salute

  4. Raising (cont.) • “Post” • Junior member executes right face and takes one step forward. • “About Face” • Senior member executes about face. • “Forward March” • Walk to original location in front of steps. • “Detail Halt” • “Dismissed”

  5. Lowering • Commands • Called by eldest member of detail • “Fall In” • Junior member ‘squashes the bug’ and falls in on left side. • “Forward March” • Walk along sidewalk, do not walk on the grass • “Detail Halt” • Given early enough to ‘step, freeze’

Lowering (cont.) • “Post” • Junior member takes a step, executes right face • “Hand Salute” • “Ready, Two” • Junior member cuts salute and ceremoniously lower colors • Senior member cuts when flag within eyesight and will grab colors. • do not let colors touch the ground • return to positions; senior member holding colors

  16. Folding the Flag • Fold the lower half of the stripe section lengthwise OVER the field of stars, making sure to hold the top and bottom edges securely. http://www.va.gov/opa/publications/celebrate/flagfold.pdf
