  3. Staggering changes… • Ranked 52nd54th out of 56 counties for its physical environment conducive to health • 64.1% of adults are overweight or obese • 24.4% of teens are overweight or obese

How does Riverside County measure up? • Health Outcomes • Riverside County is ranked 32ndof 56 counties • Ranked 28th for Mortality (death) • Ranked 36th for Morbidity (illness) • Health Factors • Riverside County ranked 42ndof 56 counties • Ranked 29th for Social and Economic Factors • Ranked 39th for Health Behaviors • Ranked 43rd for Clinical Care • Ranked 54th for Physical Environment --2012 County Health Rankings http://www.countyhealthrankings.org

  5. Healthy Riverside County Board of Supervisors Resolution • Adopted in April 2011 • Encourages county departments to work together to support active transportation, physical activity and access to healthy and affordable foods.

County CEO’s Vision: “Riverside County becomes known as the safest, most business friendly and best place to live in America” • Goal 1: To become the most business-friendly county in California. • Goal 2: To ensure Customer Centric Public Service that is better, faster and fiscally prudent through technology. Goal 3:Improve health and promote livable communities through partnerships, policies, systems and initiatives.

  7. Healthy Riverside County Initiative Our goal is to build health into everyday life and make the healthy choice the easy choice!

Initiative Priorities • Improve nutrition for all residents by increasing access to and consumption of healthy foods and beverages. • Increase daily physical activity rates in the community, workplace, school and other settings. • Reduce tobacco exposure and limit or discourage tobacco use where people live, work, play and study. • Create a healthy and safe physical/built environment that promotes walkability, bikability and active transportation.

  11. Thrive Across America! • 8-Week physical activity challenge • Nearly 550 registered on opening day • Total of 3,833 are registered; 65% on a team • 325 teams formed • 80% logged activity Over 4.3 million minutes of activity logged and 70,000 stars awarded!!
