  1. Pulling the Threads Together

    GEOG 346: Day 26

  2. Next week we will evaluate the course and undertake the review for the whole semester for the final, which is on Tuesday April 17th from 1 to 4 in Building 355, Room 103. Earth Hour is this Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. (minimize your use of electricity). Relevant to our discussion on Tuesday, there is some preliminary evidence that co-housing much more than standard multi-family housing creates major changes in footprint and lifestyle. I would really like to hear from as many people as possible about their research. Today I want to focus on some discussion questions to pull the themes of the course together. Housekeeping Items
  3. In light of current trends – climate change, peak oil, an aging and more multicultural population, ever more costly real estate (in part, because of in-migrants from Canada, the U.S., and Asia), a shifting economy, declining infrastructure, and fiscal belt-tightening – where do you think cities and regions are likely headed if we stay on the same path as now? [We can make the focus Vancouver Island for now.] Discussion Questions
  4. Where should we be going if we want to attain more sustainable cities and regions – i.e. what would this look like and how would we get there? What are the obstacles to this, conditions that need to be in place, and opportunities that we can ally ourselves with? Discussion Questions
