  8. DEFENSE ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION PROGRAM Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) • $900M+ Environmental Liability, 236 approved projects, 563 eligible properties • $12M+/- annual funding toward 55 projects with actions underway

Flood Damage Reduction • Portugues Dam – Total cost $375M • Population subject to flooding: 40,500 • Residential structures subject to flooding: 13,200 • Commercial & Public Structures: 5 million square feet • Range of damages prevented: $300 - $500 million • Urban area affected: 1,833 acres • Webcams show live construction • Rio Puerto Nuevo – Total cost $750M • Subject to flooding: over 7,500 families, numerous public facilities, and over 800 businesses • Most important infrastructure and port facilities of the San Juan Metropolitan area • Average flood damages estimated: $60 million (100-year flood event damages are estimated over $175 million) • Will provide 100-year level of protection to the largest metropolitan area in Puerto Rico Portugues Dam Artist Rendering Portugues Dam Construction 2008

Shore Protection JACKSONVILLE DISTRICT • Largest Shore Protection Program in the Nation • Constructs/maintains over 30% of the nation’s shore protection projects • 17 Counties involved • ~125 miles of constructed beach nourishment in Florida • Sustainable and Innovative – Hot Topic • Partnership with sponsors and agencies • Protects property from flood damage • Beneficial for recreation, habitat, and economy • 8 renourishments scheduled for FY11 Fernandina Beach Delray Beach Captiva Island Hillsboro Inlet Miami Beach
