  2. The Analysis Based upon the tsunami that hit portions of SW Asia on December 26, 2004

  3. What caused the tsunami • Tsunami’s are caused by underwater earthquakes • Underwater earthquakes are caused by shifting plate tectonics • As a wave generated by an earthquake advances into shallower water, it will gain speed and height, becoming even more deadly than a wave out at sea • The cause of the 2004 tsunami in SW Asia was a 9.0 underwater earthquake that gathered great speed and height as it progressed towards land

  4. The devastation • Buildings were ruined • Streets were flooded • Items ranging from clothing to boats were scattered through surrounding areas • People were injured and/or killed • The ecosystem was ruined (i.e. plants, animals, landforms)

  5. The Relief Plan Based upon the tsunami that hit portions of SW Asia on December 26, 2004

  6. Plan Idea #1 • Get news stations from around the world to cover the disaster. But have it unbiased news stations. As soon as people see the devastation, they’ll want to help. While the people are broadcasting it around the world, set up hotline numbers that will be displayed on that channel the entire time. That way, people will see the damage, want to do something, see the number and then they’ll call in and do something.

  7. Plan Idea #2 • Every country that can afford to donate money to the country where the disaster struck hardest will do that. Countries that cannot afford to donate money can send personnel over to help out. Whether it be doctors, military, or just regular people helping to get everything back the way it used to be.

  8. Plan Idea #3 • Have the people in the area that has experienced the disaster relocate to other areas to receive treatment and get help until they can be guaranteed a place to live and get help in their area.

  9. Plan Idea #4 • Do nothing at first. As soon as the country reaches collapsing period, step in. We need to get the countries able to build themselves back up after a disaster instead of other countries having to save them. By doing nothing at first, a country will be dependent upon itself and its abilities to rebuild itself. If it does not prove capable of doing so, other countries will be permitted to step in and offer assistance on how to build it back up. Not rebuild the countries themselves, but educate people on how to rebuild it.
