ALICE Project Overview • Successor Project to CAESAR (feasibility study) • Part of EC’s @LIS Programme • Duration: June 2003 - May 2006 • split in Phase A and Phase B • Phase A: Planning and Procurement until Feb. 2004 • Phase B: Implementation and Operation until May 2006 • First service expected May 2004

  12. Possible Latin American network topology • Major connectivity between AR, BR, CL, MX (STM-1) • Other countries connect to major nodes (between 10 and 45 Mbps) • Connectivity to Europe (STM-4) • Topology and capacities dependent on result of the ALICE connectivity tender

  16. DANTE contract with the European Commission in the last phase of negotiations. Expected start March 2004. Only technical matters still under discussion (bank guarantee, procurement rules) Contract value 12,500,000 EUR, EC contribution 9,750,000 Eligible countries are: China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Brunei, Japan, South Korea and Singapore invited to participate and finance their own cost France, Netherlands and United Kingdom partners from EU side TEIN 2 Plans

DANTEhas extensive regional project experience, participating in various capacities: EUMEDCONNECT, CAESAR/ALICE, SEEREN Operating GÉANT network All involving inter-regional and inter-country relations TEIN 2 seen as an important extension of GÉANT with EC support bringing additional connectivity to Asian countries fostering regional co-operation Role of DANTE and GÉANT
