Data Driven e.g. Working with Stores • The CX3 data was used to developed health language on access to healthy food written in the health element for the City of Arvin’s General Plan Update • The youth presented their findings to the City of Arvin Planning Commission • The adopted health language is being implemented through corner store conversion project

  8. Partnerships/Blended Funding Funding Sources for Healthy Retail Kern County: • Building Health Communities site funded by TCE • Community Transformation Grant Awardee for Capacity Building • Has been awarded money through California Fresh Works Fund

  9. Sustainability Sustainability of such a project can be done through: • Adoption of policies • Buy-in of invested partners to take on a projects • Residents who support local/healthy retail • Continual monitoring of the store

  10. Lessons Learned • High School students are the best volunteers • Having buy-in from the retail owner • Main point of contact helps build relationship and foster trust • Continual contact with store owners to build trust • Patience and adaptability with new funding sources
