(~1,000 systems/year) • FCC has run out of power & cooling • Cannot add to FCC due to lack of utility space and many lengthy service interruptions • Had to seek areas outside FCC

  7. CD Operations New Computer rooms • New Muon Lab • In use for the last few years for Lattice Gauge computers used by theorists (256 systems) • Already used for CDF early buys (160 systems) • Next week moving 160 CDF systems from FCC • Developing plan for another room, but it will not be enough for FY05 and beyond

  8. CD Operations New Computer rooms • Wide Band • Long term phased plan FY04 – 08 • FY04/05 build: 2,880 computers (~$3M) • Tape robot room in FY05 • Trying to accelerate to get 1 year ahead (breathing room) • FY06/07: ~3,000 computers • Longer term: possible use of high bay building (3 floors)

  9. CD Operations Value-Driven Operations • How well is CD performing it’s mission? • Measurements can help answer the questions • How much are we doing? • How well are we doing it? • Where to focus our attention for improvement? • Compare to our service agreements (MOU’s, etc.) to see if we are meeting our objectives • Are we doing the right things? • Are we doing enough? • Departments already providing some measurements • How do we use these? • Are other measurements needed? • What are they?
