  2. The Beginning: A Process Talking heads (department ones, that is!) Dialogue with: Principal(s) Counselor(s) Curriculum Coordinator English Department Chair Math Department Chair Share what each member knows or doesn’t know about ACE and remediation methods.

  3. Hit the Books! Form an ACE Study Group Create Study Guides (Information Folders) Assign Homework: What is ACE? Study Site Test Scores – School Summary Reports. Review - Median % Correct by Standards/Objectives. Determine number of students requiring remediation. Prioritize meeting times, set agenda.

SOLUTION Two- choice remediation plan A+ or KeyTrain/WorkKeys • A+ Software program allows traditional remediation with writing emphasis. • KeyTrain/WorkKeysallows remediation with vocabulary and comprehension emphasis. • Both plans offered within optional and required remediation models of instruction.

  7. The End: Overview of Remediation Program • Mathematics (Grade 8 CRT score) – evaluated for enrollment in Pre-Algebra or Beginning Algebra 1 in 9th grade enrollment year. OCAS Subject Code: 4405 • Reading (Grade 8 CRT score) – enrolled in Reading Improvement in the 9th grade enrollment year for 1 term (1.0 elective). OCAS Subject Code: 4058

  8. Algebra 1: Required “Instant” Remediation Algebra 1 course divided into 4 = blocks. 1 block = 9 wks instruction, 85 minute periods. Beginning Algebra 1-A: Chapters 1-3 (.5 Alg. 1) Beginning Algebra 1-B: Chapters 4-6 (.5 Alg. 1) Intermediate Algebra 1-C: Chapters 7-9 (.5 Alg. 1) Intermediate Algebra 1-D: Chapters 10-12 (.5 Alg. 1) (Student must earn satisfactory score at each level) Algebra 1 EOI: EOI Test Prep Curriculum (.5 elective)* *OCAS Subject Code: 4414

  9. English IIRequired Remediation Two options for remediation: 1.) Enrollment in A+arearemediation class for 1 block (.5 elective credit) English II area. or 2.) Enrollment in KeyTrainremediation class for 1 block (.5 elective credit) Reading for Information area. OCAS Subject Code: 4059

  10. OPTIONAL REMEDIATION Algebra II Biology U.S. History By parent or student request, students will be offered the option of using the A+remediation system for remediation in the area(s) of deficiency outside of the regular school day.

  11. OPTIONAL REMEDIATIION English III Geometry Students will be allowed the option of using the A+ remediation system or the KeyTrainsystem to remediate in the area(s) of deficiency outside of the regular school day.

  12. RE-TESTING:EOI & Alternate Tests • Students may retake the EOI test after receiving optional or required remediation in all 7 areas. • Students make take the WorkKeys test after receiving optional or required remediation in the following areas: English II, English III, Algebra 1, or Geometry. • Possible substitute scores from PLAN, ACT, SAT, AP course, CLEP, TABE, IB, COMPASS, TOEFL.
