  3. EMS Mobile Communication • Extended-Enhanced Message Service: • E-EMS enabled devices support the following features: • Framework for support Extended objects: • Compression of objects • Integrated Object Distribution Indicator <ODI> • A new Set of Objects • Colour formatting for text • Capability profile

  4. EMS Mobile Communication • Extended-Enhanced Message Service: • E-EMS enabled devices support the following features: • Framework for support Extended objects: • An extended object is either an object with a type supported in basic EMS, <which no longer has the basic EMS size limitations> or an object of a new type defined in Extended EMS. • With Extended EMS objects are no longer limited to the size of one message segment but may be segmented and spread over more that one message.

  5. EMS Mobile Communication • Extended-Enhanced Message Service: • E-EMS enabled devices support the following features: • Compression of Objects: • Since the Extended EMS framework allows large objects to be included in messages, the number of segments per message can become significantly high. In order to allow development and cost-effective services, a method of compressing has been used.

  6. EMS Mobile Communication • Extended-Enhanced Message Service: • E-EMS enabled devices support the following features: • Integrated Object Distribution Indicator <ODI> : • An ODI tag can be integrated into the definition of each extended object.

  7. EMS Mobile Communication • Extended-Enhanced Message Service: • E-EMS enabled devices support the following features: • A new set of objects: • Black and white bitmap picture • 4-level greyscale bitmap pictures • 64-colour bitmap pictures • Black and white bitmap animations • vCard data streams <used to define business cards> • VCalender data streams • Monophonic melodies • Polyphonic <MIDI> melodies

  8. EMS Mobile Communication • Extended-Enhanced Message Service: • E-EMS enabled devices support the following features: • Capability Profile • Many EMS-enabled devices have partial support for basic and extended EMS features. A mechanism in Extended EMS allows SME’s to exchange their extended EMS capabilities. This enables SME’s <e.g application server> to format the content of messages according to what specific recipient device is capable of rendering.

  9. EMS Mobile Communication • Extended-Enhanced Message Service: • E-EMS enabled devices support the following features: • Colour formatting for text : • In Extended EMS with basic EMS features of alignment and text size, Extended EMS also provides text foreground and back ground colour.
