  2. Student Veterans’ E-Portfolio Project • To create e-portfolios with student veterans through the Student Veterans Association (SVA)club • Funding obtained through SUNY Innovative Instructional Technology Grant (IITG) awarded Spring 2013 Lieberthal et al. Funded by SUNY IITG Grant Spring 2014

Goals of the Project • Work with veterans • Strengthen their academic engagement • Teach them about new technologies • Help them create e-portfolios to present a professional public self portrait • Improve information literacy skills • Give them an assigned room in the library Lieberthal et al.   7. Annotated Bibliography • Created guidelines to distribute to student veterans • Met with student veterans at project’s beginning to discuss the annotated bibliography • Returned mid-project to reiterate the details and my availability Lieberthal et al. Funded by SUNY IITG Grant Spring 2014

Space and Equipment • Grant funded: 2 desktops, 4 laptops, videotaping and audiotaping equipment • Association funded: 2 additional laptops • College contribution: • SVA room in library • Additional desktops • Editing room in media • Faculty hours dedicated to project Lieberthal et al. Google Sites as E-Portfolio Platform • Advantages: • Free • Portable • Reasonably user friendly • Linked to email, YouTube, Android phone, etc. • Disadvantages: • Not specifically geared to e-portfolios • No automatic administration rights Lieberthal et al. Data • 13 students signed up for an e-portfolio • 9 students took the first survey • 10 students took the second survey • 5 respondents had an e-portfolio • 5 respondents had not created an e-portfolio • 14 students used clickers • 4 students shared their e-portfolio Lieberthal et al. What we Thought • Attentive group • Not enough time • Project not tied to curriculum • Access to computers, designated room, laptops and smart phones did not guarantee completion of e-portfolios • “Veterans have a hard time expressing themselves in writing” • Google sites has its limitations Lieberthal et al. Future Plans • Librarian (Krista Gruber) teaching e-portfolios per faculty requests (part of info. lit. session) • 2-3 technology related programs for SVA club planned for 2014-15 academic year • Career Services will partner with us for tech. programs • SVA room in library available every day instead of 2X week Lieberthal et al.
