  1. Obj.#6:Distinguish between the abiotic and biotic factors in an environment.

  2. I. Ecosystem-collection of all organisms that live in a particular place, together with their nonliving or physical, environment. • Example: Pond Ecosystem

  3. II. Population-group of individuals that belong to the same species and live in the same area. • Example: Bull Frogs

  4. III. Communities- assemblages of different populations. • Example: bull frogs, toads, fish

  5. IV. Biotic Factors-biological influences on organisms within an ecosystem. • The entire living cast with which organisms may interact. • Grass, fish, insects

  6. THE BULL FROG • Biotic factors that influence a bull frog: • Fish eats a tadpole. • Heron eats adult frog • Male frogs compete for space

  7. V. Abiotic factors- physicial or non-living factors that shape ecosystems. • Sunlight • Water • Temperature • Wind • Soil • Fire

  8. THE BULL FROG Abiotic factors that influence a bull frog: Temperature of water Amount of sunlight

  9. VI. Niche-includes abiotic and biotic factors. It’s like the “role” of an organism plays in its ecosystem
