  3. 7451 Philosophy • The NCR 7451 does not attempt to keep pace with “bleeding edge” PC technology • Bleeding edge technology is not always fully mature and reliable • Emerging PC technology cost is extremely high • Product life of most new PC technologies is only 1-2 quarters • This represents 4-6 technology “cycles” over the course of a large POS rollout • Poses significant support / deployment issues managing platform variants • Technology issues such as heat, power, size, etc. • The cost and complexity of deploying rapidly changing technology is not justified in most retail environments
