Precision Checking in Process Conformance Jorge Munoz-Gama Josep Carmona UniversitatPolitècnica de Catalunya Barcelona (Spain) Process Mining Process Mining: Conformance Checking Precision: 4-step approach Confidence over the Metric Severity of each Imprecision • Conformance: measure the quality of the model with respect to the log Information System Discovery Conformance Fitness Precision Structural Enhancement Generalization Model Event Log Measuring Precision Extension with Model Behavior Detecting Imprecisions Prefix Automaton of the Log • Counting imprecisions and weight them by their frequency to estimate the precision • States with frequency lower than a threshold with respect to their precedent are considered imprecisions • 4 Factors to define the severity of an imprecision ‘s’ : Upper • Best Case Scenario: traces in the future cover the maximum number of imprecisions • Optimization problem solved by Binary Integer Programming Log (present) Frequency Alternation Stability Criticality K (future) Lower • Imprecisions in frequent parts of the process should be more sever • Worst Case Scenario: traces in the future create new imprecisions • Solved using statistics about the log to estimate the future worst case • Situations where is more likely to make a mistake should be more sever • The importance of the task involved in the imprecison should affect the severity • After applying a perturbation, the imprecisions that remain are more stable and therefore should be more sever High Confidence Low Confidence
