AES Basics • AES - Automated Export System • electronic way to file the Shipper's Export Declaration (SED) information directly to U.S. Customs • Includes destination, value, Schedule B number, weight, ECCN, AWB # • Can file using AESDirect (self-filer) or request forwarder/courier to file on your behalf

  13. AES Compliance • Currently no written procedure • Not a self-filer • No matter who files, YOU are still responsible for the filing! • It is essential to know the exporters in your company, and their level of export competency

  14. Shipping methods • Have close relationship with a single freight forwarder • Know your local UPS and FedEx representatives • Courier services require 2-4 hours to provide AES ITN (internal transaction number) if you request manually

  16. How to get copies of your filing • Freight forwarders provide with AWB • UPS Worldship: monthly email sent to one person at a company • FedEx.com has reports you can run • FAX Cover sheet to FedEx must request both ITN and copy of filing • FedEx has archived copies for a fee
