  6. Revolution Of 1905 • Under rule of Tsar Nicholas II. • Caused by unhappy working classes. • Workers believed they should own the land they worked on. • Peasants were forced to industrialize. • Constitutional Democratic Party and the Duma was formed.

  7. World War I (1914- 1918) • Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was believed to have been the trigger of World War I. • Being a part of the triple entente, an alliance between Britain, Russia, and, France, Russia was immediately involved in WWI.

  8. World War I (1914- 1918) cont. • This war revealed the corruption in Russia’s military. • Discontent continued to spread. • New weapons were introduced and a new kind of warfare was used. • Their troops were poorly supplied.

  9. Collapse of the Imperial Government • The influence of Rasputin over Alexandra threw the government into chaos. • Gregory Rasputin was assassinated December 1916. • Nicholas II’s wife accused of treason.

  10. March Revolution • Took place March 12th. • The March Revolution is a well-known revolution. • Tsar removed March 17th. • Consisted of strikes and riots. • Duma declared itself a provisional government.

  11. November Revolution • Took place November 6th. • Private property of the wealthy was abolished and distributed to peasants. • Treaty formed with the Germans. • Revolutionary army emerged. • Russia’s society and economy was destroyed.

  12. Vladimir Lenin • Played key role in Russian Revolutions. • Member of the Bolshevik Party. • “Peace, Land, Bread”. • Extremely charismatic personality.
