It is natural for adults to shout encouragement and advice to children as they are playing. The want-to-help is prevalent in all of us. As coaches and parents however, we may want to look at some other more familiar sports and learn from them. Picture the following examples: Click here to - Read the rest of the article written by Koach Karl NEW YOUTH and ADULT REFEREES FACE a TOUGH ROAD Parents and spectator should realize that new officials on the field are in training. Whether they are working their first game or have been around for a few seasons, these officials still have a lot to learn when it comes to making split decisions dealing with the activities of players on the field and the different personalities of coaches and spectators along the sidelines Click here to - Read the rest of the article written by Pat Ferre MARK YOUR CALENDAR August 21, 2013 … D-7 OPENING DAY Food – Fun & Making Soccer History Details Forthcoming 

  2. DISRUPTIVE PLAYERS “I have two very disruptive players that continue to bring practices down. I have tried discipline by sitting them out and talking to the parents, without much luck. Do you have any other suggestions??” Coach T. Brown KK – Coach Brown try putting my plan of ACTION into your practice session! Activity must be one of your main goals when dealing with young players. You must understand that, “players come to practice to play –SOCCER.” Therefore, any activity that does not involve a moving soccer ball and two goals (One to Attack & One to Defend) may become disruptive. When refereeing, I’ve noticed mainstream kids, instead of practicing for their upcoming game on the same or adjacent field, attentively watch the Special Children instead and applaud every good play. 3. WHAT TO DO??? The recent death of Salt Lake City , Utah, soccer referee Richardo Portillo makes me incredibly sad. There isn’t a game on earth that is worth someone’s life. I read that his family say the parents of the 17- year-old keeper who hit him in the head should bear some of the blame. I guarantee you that neither the parents nor anyone else on the sidelines intended for Portillo’s death to happen. But time and time again I’ve watched negative energy result in unintended consequences. Read the whole article submitted by Mike Hodges, CJSL Administrator INSIGHTS FROM ANOTHER COACH Betty is in the process of trying out for our team and we know that she has been playing for you so we hoped that you wouldn't mind telling us a little about her as a player. What position did she play for you?  How does she do in a game situation (is she aggressive, does she work hard, does she understand and stay in her position, etc.). How is her commitment/attendance for practice and games? She did well when she practiced with us but it's always helpful to get insight from someone who has seen a player more than once or twice. Thanks Sal, we look forward to hearing back from you soon. Coach Frank Click here to read D-7 Coaching Coordinator Sal Blanco’s response
