  1. Gulliver’s Travel – THE IPAD ECONOMICS PROJECT 2011

  2. CONTENT PAGE • IPad Origins • Consumers’ Views • Producers’ Views • Usage Of Economic Tools • Conclusion

  3. iPad Origins • By late 2009, the iPad's release had been rumored for several years. The iPad was announced on January 27, 2010, by Steve Jobs at an Apple press conference. The wi-fi model was released inApril 3, 2010 while the wi-fi + 3G model was released in  (2010-04-03)April 30, 2010. However, the international date of release was in may 28, 2010. (2010-04-30). H.

  4. iPad Origins • What are some of the related products for ipad and how are these products related to the ipad? Samsung Galaxy Tab is one such example. It is an Android-based compact tablet computer produced by Samsung. Ipad and Samsung galaxy tab are both substitutes to one another and thus are closely related to each other. They have almost similar functions and hardware. For example, they have almost similar screen size, memory capacity and battery life.

  5. iPad Origins • The price of the ipad is determined by the demand and supply caused by the interaction between consumers and producers. When the demand of ipad increases, the supply of ipad will increase. The price of ipad will then increase. Some of the consumers will be rationed out of the market as they are unable or unwilling to pay the price. This process will continue to occur until an equilibrium is reached. This is how the price of ipad is determined.

  6. Consumers’ Views • His major points of a 16-year old teenager: • It isn’t compelling enough for a student who already has a notebook and an iPhone. • It is missing features that a student would like, such as handwriting recognition to take notes, a camera to take pictures of the board and the ability to print documents. • The gaming features aren’t compelling enough for him to give up the Xbox. The iPhone wins because it fits in his pocket. The Xbox wins because of Xbox live so he can play against his friends, engaging HD quality and wide variety of titles. • File limitations and can’t play videos in iTunes as the iPad doesn’t support Flash.

  7. Consumers’ Views • Brett Arends of MarketWatch, in a price-comparison article this Tuesday, begs to differ. And he makes some rather incontrovertible points: • For $799, Motorola provides a Xoom with both Wi-Fi and 3G, and includes 32GB of storage space. A comparably equipped iPad goes for $729. • If you sign up with Verizon for that Xoom with a two-year contract, you'll pay $599. For a comparably equipped iPad from Verizon, you'll pay the full $729. From AT&T, it's currently $629, and that's for the now-discounted original model. • Should you want more storage space in your iPad than 32GB, you'd have to move up to the $829 64GB model – a $100 premium. Should you want to upgrade your Xoom's storage space, on the other hand, you could simply slip a 32GB card into its microSD slot – and that 32GB would set you back about $65.

  8. Consumers’ Views (Part 2) • Brett Arends of MarketWatch, in a price-comparison article this Tuesday, begs to differ. 9. Producers’ Views • Producers’ View: Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Inc • "Some folks are out there saying, well, they're only a little bit more expensive than us at $799," Jobs told his San Francisco audience in a clear reference to the Motorola Xoom, which shipped late last month. • Jobs continued: "When you take a look at this matrix of six models, five of these six models are less expensive than $799. So they've really moved up into high ground. We only have one model that's more expensive than $799."

  10. Producers’ Views • Tim Cook, COO of Apple Inc • Cook told attendees at the Goldman Sachs conference . “The experience is absolutely incredible and it’s got a number of things that are appreciably better than anything available today,” added Cook, as he ticked off the device’s browsing, e-mail, and photo display capabilities. • Cook said. “When they play with the iPad and experience the magic of using it… I have a hard time believing they’re going to go for a netbook.”
