  •  Ten steps for creating  a community of practice:

  • Choose a topic of interest to a large group of people that aligns with sponsor’s goals; develop clear charge.

  • Find convenient way for people to communicate and to share ideas/documents.

  • Allow freedom of expression but be prepared to moderate when things seem slow or seem to go astray.

  • 4. Transparency-Post agendas/minutes; keep a communication exchange with larger group (i.e., the e-pub Community of Practice interacting with the FACT2 Council).

  • 5. Look for some projects that can be completed and others that continue to build.

  • 6. Be project-driven and delegate tasks.

  • 7. Develop a protocol/message for welcoming new members to the group.

  • 8. Make suregroup leader can be found when questions about group activities arise.

  • 9. Identify timelines, delegate responsibilities and stay accountable. Build-in back up/reminder systems.

  • 10.Plan for succession and smooth transition for next iteration/cycle. Remember to acknowledge all who helped.
