Key System Requirements Architecture

  • Motion Control: SmartMotor via RS-232

    • 8 axis: 2x(0-400mm), 2y(0-400mm), 2z(0-400mm), 2w(0-360)

  • Motion Readout: Linear (x, y, and z) and Rotary (w) Encoders

    • Linear encoder resolutions: 0.5 μm.

    • Rotary encoder resolutions: 36,000 step/revolution.

    • Linear stage speed: up to 50 mm/s

    • Rotary stage speed: up to 1 revolution/second.

    • Δx, Δy, Δz, Δw (in steps).

  • DAQ: Coil EM Voltage Measurement

    • Resolution: 16 bit (5 digits).

    • Sampling rate: 1.5 kS/s.

  • Synchronization: Absolute Position vs. Voltage Measurement w/ 16 bit resolution, at 1.5 kS/s.

  • Digital I/O Noise Control: 10-7

Current System Architecture

  • Current Issues:

  • Positioning and measurements are “synchronized” by PC CPU time using software. (~ 3 ms)

  • Start and Finish positions/times are not well defined.

  • TCP/IP Interface, can be accessed remotely from anywhere, anytime, wired or wirelessly.

  • Commercial off-the-shelf product.

  • Same hardware/software can be re-used for the “Hall Probe Measurement” setup.

  • Drawbacks:

  • Extra DAQ and Encoder hardware.
