  1. Stories from the Judges Samson

  2. The Mystery of His Calling • There was no call from God’s people for deliverance from anything • God initiates deliverance of his own accord • Why God would choose as flawed a man as Samson is the mystery • God works in ways we will never understand

  3. The Mystery of his Sin • Samson was a Nazirite, somebody born to be set apart for God • Why then does he fall into such temptation and sin? • He went down to Timnah (a place full of Vineyards) when he was not meant to drink! • He deliberately chose a wife from another nation, though again his vows directed him against it • Samson begins his journey into breaking his vows

  4. The Mystery of his anointing • Despite Samson’s sin, the anointing in his great strength and leadership of Israel for 20 years continued • We focus on his failures, particularly with Delilah at the end of his 20 years, yet he was a good leader for 20 years

  5. The Mystery of his Restoration • Samson gets caught in Bed with Delilah and this time there is no supernatural deliverance • In prison and enslavement to the Philistines the symbol of his anointing, his hair, begins to grow back • Perhaps both this physical growth runs in line with his spiritual re-growth and thus repentance and final deliverance
