  • Cement is a critical aspect of development in third-world nations for buildings and roads, but produces 5% of CO2 emissions

  • Process cannot be easily made “green” because the chemical process that produces cement itself releases 60% of the CO2 in the entire manufacturing process AND cement is not readily recyclable

  • Conflict arises in limiting India, China, and Eastern Europe’s production of cement
