  2. KEY PROBLEM Child Development and Behaviour Service (CDABS) at Gold Coast has 1.6 FTE physiotherapists. In the last 10 years the paediatric population has quadrupled the staffing levels have stayed the same In the next 10 years GCHSD child population will increase by 2.5% p.a. the average growth rate is 1.4% Early Intervention is at RISK

  3. AIM OF THIS INNOVATION Increase access of children under 12 months of age Prioritise children who are at high risk High priority children reviewed by a Paediatrician on the same day Reassure parent’s who are anxious about their child’s physical development Educate parents on other treatment options

  4. BASELINE DATA Prior to the CDABS Drop in Triage Clinic 67% of referrals where over 18 months of age 33% of referrals where under 18 months of age 1.6 FTE were screening ~8 clients/month 3 month waiting period for “screening”

  5. KEY CHANGES IMPLEMENTED Service delivery model change to “drop-in clinics” no doctor’s referral required no appointment required no administration pathways Informal referrals from ; child health nurses, GP’s, Childcare… 20 minute session per child A parental survey was developed to evaluate the pilot project

  6. OUTCOMES SO FAR Increase in service capacity In last 7 weeks 71 children screened 500% increase (from 100 to 500 “screenings” per year) Increase in proportion of “screenings” of infants <12months by 50% (from 33% to 67% of total screenings) High rate or parental satisfaction

  7. LESSONS LEARNT Experience therapists are required to operate the clinic The “drop-in clinic” A follow up phone call is helpful Alleviates parents’ anxiety A great opportunity for parent and child health promotion Need to Adapt your service to changing climates Collaboration leads to better service, team inspiration, community engagement Good Ideas are contagious ! Innovation Equation Adapt + Collaborate = EarlierChild Intervention
