  2. MODULE 7: e-Care e- Care is about physical and psychological well-being in a digital world. DEFINITION

  3. Applying Ergonomics in our life • Ergonomics is applied in our life to fulfill these two goals: • Health • Productivity

  4. Back Pain • Back pain can happen when you sit on a chair for a long period of time. It may also have worsened an existing back or neck problem. • Repetitive Stress Injuries • Repetitive stress injuries (RSI) can occur due to prolonged use of the hand, causing a number of symptoms such as pain , burning , swelling, tingling, numbness, loss of dexterity and weakness. Eye Strain Your eyes can also become strained when you work in a place with bad lighting conditions; a lot of glare or with a flickering screen. Identifying Computer Usages that Affect Physical Health. Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work defines Musculoskeletal Disorders (MDSs) as impairments of bodily structure such as muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, nerve, bones that are caused or aggravated primarily by work and environment.

  5. Social Problems Associated with computer and internet use : Below are some of the social problems • sleep disorder • compulsive online shopping or online gambling • online gaming addiction • Exposure to online predators • pornography addiction • neglecting family and friends

  6. PROPER RECYCLING AND DISPOSING OF COMPUTER EQUIPMENT. • Use only when necessary • purchase a monitor that does not consume so much power while it is inactive. If you need to leave it for a period of time, switch off your computer rather than leaving it on standby. • Donate • Donate your computer to somebody who can benefit from it such as to a local charity. Remember to physically damage the hard disk so that the new owner will not be able to retrieve its sensitive content. • Recycle • recycle your old computers as well as printer ink cartridges and toners • if your old computer is damaged beyond repair or is no longer fit for use, take it to the local recycling centre. If possible send it directly to the computer recycling section.

  7. Lesson learned Taking care of yourself while working and playing in the digital world is as important as in the real world. Be sure you adopt those best practices for you to enjoy your digital experience better.
