  1. Common Fractures

  2. Pott’s Fracture • Occurs at the ankles and affects both bones of the leg

  3. Comminuted Fracture • Bone shatters the affected area into a multitude of bony fragments

  4. Transverse Fracture • When a bone breaks at the shaft across its long axis

  5. Spiral Fracture • Produced by twisting stresses that spread along the length of a bone

  6. Colles Fracture • A break in the distal portion of the radius, typically the result of reaching out to cushion a fall

  7. Greenstick Fracture • Only one side of the shaft is broken while the other is bent

  8. Epiphyseal Fracture • Occurs at the growth plate (epiphyseal)where bone matrix is undergoing calcification and chondrocytes are dying • Can stop growth

  9. Compression Fracture • Occur in vertebrae subjected to extreme stresses • Landing on your butt on a fall
