The Sad Truth is that a lot of this blindness could have been avoided…… • 8 out of every 10 blindness is avoidable. • 4 out of every 10 blindness are caused by cataracts • Cataracts is a condition where the lens becomes opaque and are easily treated. • Many cannot afford to see an eye doctor and just accept their blindness.   6. HOW DOES RSI HELP? RSI helps people who have an eye problem get the treatment they need by paying for the supplies, providing the doctors or the equipment and the location to see patients.   7. WHAT IS RSI -  RSI was created to raise money to help poor people get the eye treatment needed to prevent or cure blindness. - RSI was founded in 1996 by a committed group led by Felipe I. Tolentino, MD, a world renowned, Boston-based eye doctor, affiliated with Harvard Medical School.   - RSI is a Massachusetts not-for-profit corporation governed by a professional, international, and highly respected group of people.. How RSI helps the poor blind? •        Partners with established eye care institutions and organizations to provide quality eye care services in underserved • areas on a long-term basis. •       Provides eye equipment, funding, advice, and expertise to these institutions. •       Supports eye educational endeavours, research, and clinical missions that improve the standards of eye care. RESTORING SIGHT INTERNATIONAL,INC Our Mission: That No Person Should Be Needlessly Blind RSI Philippine Projects RSI has focused on the Philippines where 6 out of every 10 people are too poor to afford eye care. Also there is a large number of people (400,000) blinded by cataracts which can be treated. RSI sponsors outreach projects through its partners The Ophthalmological Foundation of the Philippines (OFPHIL) and The Asian Eye Institute (AEI) and others.

Accomplishments in the Philippines In the Philippines, through OFPHIL and AEI:    Over 65,000 patients serve for eye clinical consultations and treatment.      Over 40 eye clinical missions in underserved communities.      No less than 8,000 cataract and other eye surgeries.      Provided much needed eye equipment and instruments to partner ef eye centers affiliated with OFPHIL.   11. B O S T O N Current Projects Codman‘s Square Boston, Massachusetts        Partnered with Codman Square Health Center in Dorchester, which serves uninsured, indigent people in the Boston Area. Children‘s Hospital Boston, Massachusetts       Established partnership with its Eye Department to promote clinical, research and educational endeavours in children’s diseases.        Promoting public educational drive to increase awareness of childhood eye diseases. Future Projects School Nurse Program Boston, Massachusetts        Partner with Boston Public school to train nurses to screen children for eye problems. RESTORING SIGHT INTERNATIONAL,INC Our Mission: That No Person Should Be Needlessly Blind Dr. David Hunter (Children’s Hospital), Dr. Lucy Lee (Donor) and Dr. Norman Fajardo (RSI Fellow) Accomplishments in Boston In Boston, RSI helped to equip an additional eye consultation room in Codman Square Health Center Eye Clinic Funded Dr. Jesse Caguiau international fellowship training for Low Vision Rehabilitation at the renowned Massachusetts Eye Infirmary and Pediatric Ophthalmology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital. Dr. Norman Fajardo was the first RSI sponsored fellow. The 2nd Fellow Dr. Yonina Ron is from Israel.

GiveThe PoorThe Gift of Sight • You can choose who to help an adult or a child. • You will receive a letter and a picture of the person you helped. • Your donation will pay for the materials needed for the surgery or treatment. • You will also receive a thank you letter. • A donation of $ 200 will help a blind adult with cataracts to see again. • A donation of $ 50 will buy a poor child glasses. • A donation of $ 500 will send a mission to a poor area. Michigan Middle School raise funds for the Gift of Sight In the fall of 2006, the middle school science teacher decided to teach his kids a lesson in light and sight and the value of community service. He introduced them to RSI’s Gift of Sight Program. The gifted students of the Frost Middle School in Livonia, Michigan were enthusiastic to help out. As of November 2006 they raised over $800. They want to sponsor a mission and to fund the eye treatment of a children in their age group of 10-16 years old.
