  1. BRIEF TO MENTORS

  2. AGENDA • Shadow Mentoring Background • Speed Mentoring Background • Mentoring Goals • Times and Locations • Mentor Expectations • What to Bring • Questions?

  3. Shadow Mentoring Background The shadow mentoring program will group experts, mid-career, and young professionals together for one or two days of the symposium. The program offers participants an opportunity to view symposium deliberations from other people’s perspectives. It also offers participants the opportunity to learn about other competencies. Shadow Mentoring simulates a mentor-protégé relationship. Unlike traditional shadowing programs, this opportunity promotes attendees to publically interact with members of their group. • Groups will ideally consist of an expert, mid-career, and a young professional. • Groups are encouraged to remain together for as much of ASNE Day as is possible. • Please establish your goals and expectations for participating in this program prior to the start of ASNE Day. • Arrive with a list of discussion points and questions for your peers.

  4. Speed Mentoring Background Speed mentoring is a new concept that does not contain the same formalities as a traditional mentoring program. Please note that Speed Mentoring is not actual mentoring. Speed mentoring allows employees to get advice in a series of short conversations with experts and other mentors. These short conversations can focus participants' attention on key areas of discussion or interest and also provide the mentee a variety of viewpoints to consider. This format allows for quick-hit information from another professional to help solve a pressing need and helps to facilitate networking. • This event will consist of four (4) 10-minute rotations: • 1 Minute for Introductions (30 seconds each) • 8 Minutes for Mentoring Discussion • 1 Minute Wrap-Up *A sound will be made at the 1 minute mark and another sound will be made to denote the rotation • There will be 30 seconds between each rotation to allow for mentees to move to the next mentor. You are more than welcome to start conversations once the mentee has rotated. A sound will mark the beginning of the next rotation. • You will meet with 4 mentees during the event.

  5. Mentoring Goals Shadow Mentoring Program • Prepare to share perspectives that are specific to your competency domains. • Learn the differences of how your competency domains, and those of your peers, influence the community. Speed Mentoring Program • Please note Speed Mentoring is not Actual Mentoring • Allow for quick-hit information to help solve a pressing need or provide general professional advice. • Targeted networking with possible prospect of finding a potential future mentor. • Increase communication throughout the industry and society about developmental opportunities and individual professional strategies. • Help build a culture that fosters meaningful partnerships and connections among interested employees in order to increase knowledge, skills, and job satisfaction.
