  3. Kindergarten Screening: • Recently occurred March 28th, 29th & 30that your designated school • If you have not screened your child yet please contact my office. The next screening will be August 17th, 2017 • Early Screening Inventory (ESI-R) • Developmental screening instrument that is individually administered

  4. Common Parental Questions: • What is kindergarten screening? • An opportunity to meet your child. • It is NOT a test. There is no pass or fail. • Developmental screening tool – NOT SKILLS! • Not testing letters or sounds

  5. You set the tone about the process  • Make new friends. • See your new school. • Come and play for a little bit: • Play with blocks • Draw a picture • And even hop up and down!

Common Parental Questions: What if my child getsnervous, shy, or has difficulty with the screening? • ALL children age 5 on or before October 1st will be admitted to kindergarten. • This is not for a special education referral. No child will be referred to special education based on this screening tool. This is NOT the purpose.

  8. Common Parental Questions: What do I do if my child is a summer birthday? • Feel free to call the curriculum office to chat. • Parent decision made prior to the start of the year. • You know your child best.

  9. Common Parental Questions: What can I do help prepare my child for September? READ & Praise your child • READING is NOT a natural process for us. SPEECH is – READING is not. • Incorporate nursery rhymes- MOTHER GOOSE • Incorporate rhyming books – Dr. Seuss • When reading TALK about the story!
