  3. JHARKHAND STATE PROFILE Area in % Area in Lakhs Ha * Total Geographical Area : 79.71 * Total Cultivable Land : 38.00 * Net Sown Area : 28.08% 25.75 * Current Fallow : 11.12% 8.87 * Other Fallow : 08.46% 6.75 * Forest : 29.20% 23.28 * Barren Lands : 7.20% 5.74 * Non – Agricultural Use : 8.60% 6.86 * Pasture and Other Grazing Land : 2.48% 1.97 * Cultivable Waste Land : 3.44% 2.74 * Irrigated land : 12.73% 3.007 * Cropping Intensity : 125%

  4. COMARISION AMONG NAIS , MNAIS & WBCIS • Estimation of claim for NAIS is done by crop cutting over block/ district level and for MNAIS it is done over panchayta level. Due to lack of regular crop cutting over panchayat level it is difficult to asses the claim in MNAIS . • * For NAIS premium rates range between 1.5% to 3.5% . On the other hand for MNAIS & WBCIS premium rates are much higher compared to NAIS . Higher premium rates put more financial burden on farmers . • *In NAIS Government pays 10% of farmer’s premium as subsidy for small and marginal farmers . In MNAIS & WBCIS Government pays 50% of premium as subsidy but due to higher premium rates farmers have to pay more .i.e; For NAIS if Sum Insured is 20,000.00 for wheat, farmers premium would be 500 Rs. and for small and marginal farmers premium would be 450 Rs. On the other hand in the same case for a farmer will have to pay 900 and 800 under MNAIS &WBCIS respectively as per the capped premium rates.

  5. COMPARISION AMONG NAIS , MNAIS & WBCIS • * In NAIS coverage period for kharif –April to September &for rabi- October to March. And In MNAIS &WBCIS coverage period for kharif –April to July & for rabi- October to December. NAIS having more time span for crop coverage is beneficial from farmer’s perspective . • *For WBCIS when farmer friendly termsheet was prepared on the basis of geographical and metrological condition of JHARKHAND ,very high premium rates were given by Insurance Companies. As per NCIP guidelines when rates were brought down under capping the sum insured became very low despite high premium rates. • *Having fewer Governmental sources which provide reliable data of rainfall and other weather parameters, Insurance Companies get statics from private players and data manipulation can't be denied in that case .
