  1. ABE/GED/ACE/CRC Online

  2. What is Distance Learning? • Education for students working at home with little face-to-face contact with instructors • Material provided through the internet, television, or mail • For students who cannot attend a traditional class because of time or transportation issues • Online students should feel comfortable using computers.

  3. How is Distance Learning Different? • Is a distance learning class easier or more difficult than a traditional class? • Distance learning can be moredifficult • Not much face-to-face time with teachers • Many distractions at home (beware) • Distance learning is more convenient, not easier

  4. Course Expectations • Follow class instructions • Must do 10 hours of class work each week (only about 6% of your entire week) • Stay in contact with the instructor • Attend testing session at the end of the semester • Attend all testing appointments • Be professional in all forms of communication

  5. How to Use Contemporary’s ITTS, Pre-GED, GED program • Click the link on the GED/ACE Online page to access your course work • Enter User Name and Password • Click Log In

  6. Career Readiness Certification (CRC) • Lots of companies, even local ones, are requiring the CRC • You may score a bronze, silver, or gold • You can study and take your first test with us for free! • Ask your instructor to add you to Career Ready 101 and begin practicing

  7. How to Use Program • Subjects are assigned based on the student’s TABE scores

  8. Study Plan Menu • Begin assigned units by taking the Pretest • When you master the Pretest (80% or better), the entire unit and its lessons move to the Mastered Units list at the bottom of the Study Plan

  9. Study Plan Menu • You may choose to review the Pretest with the correct answers and explanations. • Once a unit is mastered (at least 80%), you can review the lessons but are not required to take the quizzes or Posttest.

  10. Study Plan • This menu appears after the student clicks on the View Lessons button. • The lessons with a greencheck mark indicate the lesson is mastered. • The lessons with a red X indicate the lesson is not mastered and display a Start Review button.

  11. Navigating Lessons • You navigate through the lessons by clicking the numbers on the number bar at the right or by clicking the More or Next button at the bottom of the screen.

  12. Glossary with Audio • Clicking on any of the blue highlighted words in a lesson launches a glossary. Clicking on the audio icon allows you to hear the word and definition.

  13. How to Use the Program • When you finish with all scores to 80%, notify your instructor so the next level can be added.

  14. GED Test Info • Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies • Passing score is 2250 • Must have a minimum of 410 on each test • So, get higher in strong areas! • Must pass the practice test before receiving referral. • Cost is $25.00-due before first official GED test • Must have government issued ID to take test

  15. Make Your Own Schedule • Distance learning is more convenient because you get to make your own schedule • Schedule time to do class work and stick to that schedule • Let’s look at an example

  16. Schedule Example

  17. Life Long Learning • 80% of today’s jobs require some form of post-secondary education • 85% of our students receive some form of financial aid (Don’t let money stop you!) • It is important that you do the work and finish!

  18. Get Started! • Do at least TEN hours every week • Always review missed questions • Contact your instructor if you have questions-never leave a question unanswered! • Tutoring is available • Don’t give up, you can do it! • Use your handout as a checklist to succeed
