  2. Thyroid Problems in Pregnancy Thyroid problems in pregnancy can cause serious conditions like premature birth, affecting the growth of the baby, miscarriage and stillbirth. Here is a look at the common thyroid problems.

  3. Hyperthyroidism Hyperthyroidism is the presence of too much thyroid hormone in the body. It is caused during pregnancy by an autoimmune disease called Graves’ disease, which creates antibodies TSI that stimulates the thyroid to make excess thyroid hormone. A risk associated with hyperthyroidism is thyroid storm which can complicate the pregnancy by causing high fever, diarrhea, irregular heartbeat and shock or death if not treated on time.

  4. Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism Severe Nausea Hands shivering or having tremors Severe Nausea Increased nervousness, irregular heartbeat. Severe weight loss.

  5. Hypothyroidism Severe hypothyroidism can affect the brain development of the foetus. It can also cause congestive heart failure, pre-eclampsia, placental abnormalities, and postpartum hemorrhage. For women who had hypothyroidism even before pregnancy should always keep a check on the thyroid levels during the entire duration of pregnancy.
