As promised, here comes my article on the various non-pharmaceutical procedures available for acne treatment. In certain patients the oral and topical medication may not have the desired effect, i.e., resolution of pimples. In such cases, there are various other options available that can help in achieving the desired goal.

  1. Treatment of Acne - Non Pharmacological As promised, here comes my article on the various non-pharmaceutical proceduresavailable for acne treatment. In certain patients the oral and topical medication may not have the desired effect, i.e., resolution of pimples. In such cases, there are various other options available that can help in achieving the desired goal. These would be: Chemical Peeling. Peels with glycolic acid or salicylic acid done regularly at intervals of 2-3 weeksis helpful. Chemical Peels, peels off the superficiallayers of the epidermis that in turn causes resolutionof the pimples and fading of the acne scars /pigmentation. Microdermabrasion. A procedure wherein negativepressure is applied over the skin and it removes thedamaged skin from the base. Microdermabrasionwith aluminium crystals and diamond crystals are themost commonly used for the Indian skin type. It hasto be repeated every 3-4 weeks. Dermabrasion. Manual dermabrasion using a roller,though used primarily for treatment of acne scars and facial rejuvenation also has slight beneficial effect in treatment of pimples. LASER. The use of LASER for treatment of acne has gained importance in the last decade.The commonly used LASERs, Q-switched Nd:YAG, IPL LASER and Nd:YAG, done atregular intervals of 2-3 weeks plays a role in resolution of acne. Others. Mesotherapy, Cryosurgery, I/L steroid injection over resistant acne lesions is alsotried for resolution of acne.
