  1. Dr. Ross Porter of Stillpoint Family Resources : Putting Family First

  2. Dr. Ross Porter of Stillpoint Family Resources knows that balancing work and family can be a challenge. It’s easy to feel stressed and strained when we feel like we don’t have enough time to be with our loved ones, so it’s more important than ever that we implement tools that help us both increase and deepen family time, such as the following:

  3. • Try your best to leave work at work. Being distracted at home means that you won’t be able to fully enjoy your spouse and children, and your loved ones know when you’re not truly there with them. Although we all have moments in which we may have to deal with a problem at the office during our time off, it’s important that it not become a habit.

  4. • Try taking tangible steps to transition from work to home, such as changing your clothes, or some deep breathing exercises to remind yourself that you’re no longer at work so that you can be fully present with your loved ones.

  5. • If and when you have some flexibility in your schedule, go to work a little later, or come home a little earlier to surprise your family.

  6. • Plan family time that is nonnegotiable. Whether it’s a weekly game night, meal times, or a monthly game of football outside on the lawn, build in sacred time.
