  2. DERMATOLOGY Dermatology is the branch of medicine that deals with the health of the skin, nails, hair and mucous membranes. The skin is the largest organ of the body; it is the first to come in contact with environmental pollutants like bacteria and be affected by injuries. The skin plays a significant role in overall health. A dermatologist is a doctor who specialises in the treatment of disorders of the skin, nails and hair. He or she can also provide cosmetic support to enhance looks by revitalising the appearance of hair, skin and nails.

  3. ROLE OF DERMATOLOGISTS According to Best Dermatologist in Sarjapur Road, Dr Kavitha GV Mandal, Dermatologists are concerned with the health of the skin, hair, nails and mucous membranes. They can treat over 3000 skin conditions including acne, eczema, psoriasis, hives, impetigo and skin cancer as given below. Dermatologists are experts in skin grafting, laser treatment, lesion excisions and many other non-surgical and surgical procedures. Dermatologists have a great amount of clinical knowledge; they can identify the internal conditions that cause the various symptoms of skin diseases.

Acne can be caused by many factors, which lead to different types of pimples. Acne can sometimes result in low self- esteem, depression and scarring of the skin. Vitiligo: A vitiligo patient has patches of lighter skin due to loss of melanin, a pigment responsible for the colour of skin, hair and eyes. Eczema and Dermatitis: Eczema is an umbrella term for a number of conditions wherein the skin becomes inflamed, red and itchy. Blisters may also appear on the skin. Eczema includes a topic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, which affect the skin differently. Fungal Infections: Fungal infections of the skin, nails and hair are common dermatologic condition and are typically mild. However, they can cause more severe symptoms for people with lower immunity. Candida is a group of yeasts, which can cause a broad range of infections like oral thrush and balantitis.

  5. Hair Disorders: The major cause of hair loss, especially in males, is hereditary. For others, hair loss may be the symptom of an underlying medical condition like alopecia or it could be an isolated condition caused by various factors. Hair lice can also affect the health of hair. Nail Disorders: Nail complaints are often fungal infections, discoloration and toenails growing in. Nail disorders can also be suggestive of underlying medical conditions like diabetes. Psoriasis: Psoriasis is a chronic disease of the autoimmune system that speeds up the growth of skin cells. The rapid growth of skin cells results in red, scaly skin, which resembles that of a patient with eczema. There are various types of psoriases, which affect the health and look of the skin differently. Rosacea: Rosacea predominantly affects the skin on the face and causes small bumps filled with pus to develop. It also causes the face to appear red, as if the person is blushing acutely. Rosacea can also cause swollen eyelids and cause blood vessels to become visible. It can spread from the nose and cheeks to the chin, forehead, ears and chest and even circle around to the back. Middle- aged women with fair skin are prone to develop rosacea. Skin Cancer: Oncologic dermatology is a new medical discipline to treat cancers of the skin and manage skin caused by other types of cancer. The most common types of skin cancers are Melanoma, Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) and Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Early detection and treatment can cure most skin cancers.
