Green Logisticsexercise company: ALKO OYJ. • Environmental policy: • Alko satisfy customers with high quality of services and products • Its environmental policy is also based in customer needs which means ecological sustainability in customer values with safe and profitable products. • Alko invests to its employees by training environmental issues, laws and rules to them. • Alko is also decreasing environments burden by developing and implementing environmental issues.

Green Logisticsexercise company: ALKO OYJ. • Relationship to logistics and environment: When Alko plans to establish new store it considers environmental points of view: - Transportation and distribution process is done economically and without burdening nature too much. - Stores are located in central places with other malls, services etc. - Distribution is planned to be efficient which means that distribution routes and timings are taken into account. - Routing is planned so that there is always return load. - Joint transports with other suppliers. (avoiding useless driving and burden of the nature)

Green Logisticsexercise company: ALKO OYJ. • Actions to be “green in logistics”: • Joint transports • Bottle and aluminium recycling system. • Return system for platforms (Eur,campaign and brewery platforms) • Taking care that interest groups are involved to quality standards like 14000 , iso 9000 standard and EMAS-standards (Eco-Management and Audit System). • Having co-operation with PYR Oy, Palpa and Suomen keräyslasiyhdistys ry. • Less energy using in stores and cleaning materials less nature burdening. • Edi-systems Results: Less transportation, recycling and return system for platforms decreases use of the raw materials, activating suppliers to nature friendly policy by standards, using edi-systems decreases use of paper.

Green Logisticsexercise company: ALKO OYJ. • Future plans: • Alko is developing collecting of disposable glass with Suomen Keräyslasiyhdistys ry • Alko is trying to find new ways of use for disposable glass • Comparison with the competitors: We compared Alko to Systembolaget and Vinmonopolet • Alko is pioneer in return bottle and aluminium can system compare to System bolaget • System bolaget has own transport company and some suppliers use their own transports methods. • Otherwise companies are quite similar. • No environmental information in Vinmonompolets page (Norway)

Green Logisticsexercise company: ALKO OYJ. • Our judgement: • Our judgement is that Alko is doing well with environmental issues. • Maybe they should take more organic products to their selection. For example organic kossu, • Alko should give more strict instructions to producers in environmental issues
