  1. Teacher Evaluation & Tenure What you need to know. Joe’s High School Happyville, USA April 17, 2014

  2. Receiving Tenure • All teachers new to the district must participate in a mentorship program during the first year; • You must be evaluated as “effective” or “highly effective” in at least two of the three years following mentorship.

  3. Maintaining Tenure • You must maintain a rating of no less than “effective”; • You may be subject to tenure charges after two consecutive annual ratings below “effective”;

  4. Corrective Action Plan • After an annual evaluation rating below “effective,” a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) will be developed by you and your supervisor to address deficiencies outlined in the evaluation.

  5. Teacher Evaluation 85% 15% 100% NOTE: The above plan applies to the science department.

  6. Teacher Practice We will cover the student achievement piece in another PD. Today, let’s talk about the 85% part of your evaluation: TEACHER PRACTICE(long and short observations)

  7. Observation Requirements NOTE: these are only minimum requirements; you can expect to see supervisors in your rooms much more than three times per school year.

  8. Observation Rubric • A number of evaluation rubrics have been approved for use in districts across NJ. • We are using the rubric developed by Focal Point. • You will be provided with a copy of the rubric at an additional PD in the near future.
