  3. Vocabulary Notes • Note-taking: • You are about to see sentences and pictures of vocabulary words. As we look at each word, on the right side of your paper: • A. Write “Student:” and then what YOU think the word means. • B. On Back Write: “Dictionary:” so you can add the dictionary definition later • Purpose: • You will use these definitions to create a vocabulary game in groups (Pictionary). You will be tested on these words in three weeks, so be sure to take good notes! You’ll need them for your group, game, and study guide.

  16. When the girl asked for the fifth time if she could have a raise in allowance, Mom’s finite reserves of patience were running low.

  17. I dress my dog in armor so that he will be completely invulnerable.

  18. The angry mob had nothing but malevolent feelings toward their oppressors.

  19. The student had a nonchalant attitude about his failing grade and did little to bring it up before the end of the grading period.

  20. Scientists today have so much specialized knowledge that they sometimes seem omniscient. Wait! There’s another example…

  21. When the narrator knows everything about every character in the story and all their thoughts, the narrator is considered omniscient.

  22. Some people believe that having lots of money would be a panacea for all their problems.

  23. Mother Teresa was famous for her scrupulous and principled nature.

  24. The cheetah surprised its prey by skulking through the tall grass.

  25. Their supercilious attitude toward their waiter was extremely offensive.

  26. As a child, Mozart had an uncanny ability to compose music.

  27. Someone whose offense is deemed to be venial by the judge may be ordered to perform community service rather than a harsher punishment.
