Isa 49:13-16 Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break out into singing, O mountains; for the Lord has comforted His people, and will have mercy on His afflicted.  (14)  But Zion said, Jehovah has forsaken me, and my LORD has forgotten me.  (15)  Can a woman forget her suckling child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, they may forget, yet I will not forget you.  (16)  Behold, I have carved you on the palms of My hands; your walls are forever before Me.

  4. 1. God’s relation to us • He created us and give us life • We are His Children • In human context, He is like our mothers, giving birth to us

God’s Caring Feelings for His Children (1) • Isa 49:13  Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break out into singing, O mountains; for the Lord has comforted His people, and will have mercy on His afflicted. • 諸天哪，應當歡呼！大地啊，應當快樂！眾山哪，應當發聲歌唱！因為耶和華已經安慰他的百姓，也要憐恤他困苦之民。 • God is empathetic of our human condition（人生遭遇與存在） • The human condition is "the characteristics, key events, and situations which compose the essentials of human existence, such as birth, growth, emotionality, aspiration, conflict, and mortality“ (Wikipedia)

  6. God’s Caring Feelings for His Children (2) • Can a woman forget her suckling child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, they may forget, yet I will not forget you. • 婦人焉能忘記他吃奶的嬰孩，不憐恤他所生的兒子？即或有忘記的，我卻不忘記你。

God’s Caring Feelings for His Children (3) • Psa 131:1-3  O Jehovah, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes lofty; nor have I walked in great things, nor in things too wondrous for me.  (2)  Surely I have behaved and have quieted my soul, as one weaned by its mother; my soul on me is like one weaned.  (3)  Let Israel hope in Jehovah from this moment and forever. • 耶和華啊，我的心不狂傲，我的眼不高大；重大和測不透的事，我也不敢行。  (2)  我的心平穩安靜，好像斷過奶的孩子在他母親的懷中；我的心在我裡面真像斷過奶的孩子。  (3)  以色列啊，你當仰望耶和華，從今時直到永遠！ • Like a child in mother’s bosom (母親的懷抱)

God’s love for us • Mat 4:16  The people who sat in darkness saw a great Light; and Light has sprung up to those who sat in the region and shadow of death." • 那坐在黑暗裡的百姓看見了大光；坐在死蔭之地的人有光發現照著他們。 •  God’s work through Christ •  God meets our mortal need for eternal life • Joh 6:35  And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes on Me shall never thirst. • 耶穌說：「我就是生命的糧。到我這裡來的，必定不餓；信我的，永遠不渴。 • God’s gentle, mother-like love: To feed us, to drink us, to give us LIFE

  9. Conclusions • God’s feeling for us is like loving mother • God empathizes with out needs, like a mother infant • God gives us His love through Jesus
