Roald’s father and elder sister died when he was three leaving his mother to raise 6 kids on her own. 1919 • At age 23 He joined the Royal Air Force when war broke out. 1939 Timeline Wrote down an account of his experience in the war and it was sold for 900$ and published in the Saturday Evening Post 1942

  4. 1950’s Wrote short stories for adults Married Patricia Neal and had 5 children. 1953 Timeline James and the Giant Peach, his first children’s book, is published. 1961 Died November 23 of a rare blood disorder. 1990
