Roald’s father and elder sister died when he was three leaving his mother to raise 6 kids on her own.


  • At age 23 He joined the Royal Air Force when war broke out.



Wrote down an account of his experience in the war and it was sold for 900$ and published in the Saturday Evening Post




Wrote short stories for adults

Married Patricia Neal and had 5 children.



James and the Giant Peach, his first children’s book, is published.


Died November 23 of a rare blood disorder.
