What the Brain Does

Your brain is always busy. Your brain constantly receives messages from all around your body. Your brain makes you see, hear, respond, smell, touch, remember, think and learn. It is your brain that really sees. Your brain is like one huge computer that controls your body. Your brain controls almost everything you do. Part of your brain works like a telephone switchboard. Different parts of your brain do quite different jobs. Everything a person remembers is stored in the brain. The brain can do tasks that no super computer can do.

What the Brain is Made of

The brain is made up of billions of nerve cells. The large lumpy lobes on the top of your brain is where you think. The brain is a jelly-like ball protected by the hard, bony case of the skull. The pituitary gland is the size of a pea. It is a gland that controls growth.

Animal Brains

Animal brains are less powerful than human brains. The brains of chimpanzees are most like human brains.
