  2. Learning Styles • 10 minutes to complete learning styles survey • Read ALL of the directions before you start the survey • Put your survey in the pile based on your MATH period

  4. Challenge Your engineering firm has been hired by the African Embassy to find an inexpensive way to insulate homes to combat the warmer climate of African areas, such as Egypt.

  5. Group Roles • There are 4 roles with many different formal responsibilities • What does formal responsibilities mean? • Ex: The recorder will compile all the group members research documents into one document that will be handed in to Ms. Boop by 11/13/12 • This project will be completed both in class and at home • Your project manager will communicate what your task is for each day. • Your Time Keeper is going to make sure that you are completing YOUR assigned task. • It is expected that you will fulfill your task at home if that is what your group decides. NO EXCEPTIONS!

  6. How will your group be formed? • Your group will be based on your learning styles survey • Each type of learner will be represented in your group • Knowing the type of learner you are, make sure that you use those strengths of your group members

  7. What will you do the FIRST day of meeting? • Get in your group and share the type of learner you are • Everyone has input on what group role that they wish to have • For roles that there is more than one person wanting that role, then put the names of every person and randomly draw a name • Read and sign group contract- This will be followed very strictly • Project Manager will get all contact information for everyone and will copy this info down for EVERY group member

Science Class vs. Social Studies Class Ms. A Ms. Boop Conduct research for project Tri-fold information compiled in class Tri-fold and model grade is a group grade that is worth the same amount as a test. Individual grades based on group role and research • Design and build project • Tri-fold constructed in class • Tri-fold and model grade is a group grade that is worth 30% of overall grade • Individual grades based on reflection paper about the engineering design process

  9. End Product • Tri-Fold & Model= 400 points (Ms. A & Ms. Boop) • 100 points for model • Reflection on Engineering Design Process=100 points (Ms. Armentrout) • Group Role= 100 points (Ms. Boop)

  10. Monday 11/5/12 • You will be given a budget by Ms. A • Extra points will be awarded to groups that stay at least half below their budget • Materials list will need to begin • Decide who does what research in Ms. Boop’s class and Project Manager will record this information on the contact list • Group will come up with tasks that will be done by EACH member of the group over the holiday on the 6th.

  11. Tuesday 11/6/12 • This is a holiday, however, work needs to be completed over this time for homework to be ready for Wednesday • Gather materials for project • One person needs to bring ONE shoe box.

  12. Wednesday 11/7/12 • Formal budget sheet will be completed by the group by the end of science class • You will start to draw your model with Mr. Shettig

  13. Thursday 11/8/12 • All materials are brought in by group • Group starts to build their model during class

  14. Friday 11/9/12 • Finish building model in science class • Finish research in Social Studies class

  15. Monday 11/12/12 • NO SCHOOL • Recorder: Complete your compiled list of research to be handed in to Ms. Boop by 11/13/12
