Configuring your COM ports

1. Configuring your COM ports Before you connect to a network, you must set up your COM port to the correct parameters. Click in the INFORM toolbar. The Port Setting window below will appear.

2. In the window above, M20X has been selected to tell the software that we will be direct connecting to the network and that we will be using the "My New Network". Most IZAC networks communicate at 9600 baud, but can be configured to communicate at slower speeds like 1200 or 2400 baud. If you are unsure of what baud rate the network is communicating at, contact your dealer. The M20X definition in the Device field is used for all direct connect modules from Solidyne including M202, M202A, M201, M200, and the new M204-AN module. The Status field is not an editable field. It displays the current status of the COM port. In the example above, COM1 is "Ready" to communicate and no other programs are currently using the port. If "Busy" is displayed, some other program running is using the port. If you run into a "Busy" COM port, typically it is because software for a digital camera or a hand-held PDA such as a Palm Pilot are running and "looking" for the device on the specified port. Disabling this type of software will allow the status of the COM port to return to "Ready". The Network field is used to specify which network you would like to connect to with the selected COM port. NOTE: The INFORM software can communicate to multiple networks on multiple COM ports simultaneously. For example, the above setting has the network "My New Network" selected to connect via COM1. If you choose, you can select a different network to connect to COM2 and have both networks communicating to the INFORM software via different COM ports.

3. Modem Connections Before a COM port can be used for remote connection using a modem, the software must "Scan for Modems". To scan for modems, click Configure->General and select the "Communications" Tab.
