  2. Aim and objectives of our project Aim: Oaklands College Students’ Academic Community is part of Oaklands ongoing commitment to improve academic standards and professional cooperation. Achieving this will include the exchange of resources, ideas, and the sharing of good practices between and within different academic programmes and departments Objectives: • Develop and promote academic excellence amongst Oaklands HE students • Share tips and research sources • Exchange of resources and ideas • Essential study skills tips and resources • Online and social network engagement • Question and Answer • Web forum and discussion • Collaborative students projects • Workshops & master-classes • Trade of books • Advertising PT and FT jobs relevant to students University of Hertfordshire Learning and Teaching Conference 2012

How will we do this? • Providing platforms for students to exchange ideas and resources http://academiccommunity.oaklands.ac.uk/ • Offering support and advice • Finding funding to reward outstanding work by engaging with the local business community • Managing co-operation between the main external and internal Oaklands HE stakeholders University of Hertfordshire Learning and Teaching Conference 2012

Core values The core values are: • Develop and enhance academic and professional excellence in written and research assignments and practical application. • An open, friendly and learning community to develop academic and professional skills and to nurture close relationships among Oaklands students. • Celebrate and enhance community diversity, variety of cultures, races, religions, gender, and beliefs to be able to appreciate the differences and similarities between peoples. • Establishing and maintaining partnerships with community-based organisations to integrate expertise and real world connections into students learning experiences. • Change, develop and nurture adaptability, communication, initiative and imagination as habits of mind that are critical to success. Conclusion • Essence of this project is to enhance, encourage communication between, and develop our HE students academic and professional standards • A challenging task to achieve the main aims of the project - especially regarding ownership of the main ideas • Social media and mobile communications (Twitter, Facebook) integrated within StudyNet is a fundamental precondition to succeed.
