  4. PBIS Program • Positive Behavior Interventions in Schools • School Motto Manners Attitude Respect Enthusiasm Kindness • Students are driven by these Marek values and serve as a daily reminder that all should continuously emphasize and recognize positive behaviors throughout the day.

  5. Classroom Expectations • In order to guarantee your child, and all the students in class, the excellent learning climate they deserve, all students will be held to the following classroom expectations. • All students will be expected to behave in a manner which does not prevent us from teaching and/or prevent other students from learning. • Classroom expectations for students are: 1. Be RESPECTFUL. 2. Be RESPONSIBLE. 3. Be SAFE. • These expectations are posted in the classroom as a constant reminder for the students. We believe children will behave appropriately when they are made aware of their expectations.

  6. Classroom Expectations • If a student chooses to not follow an expectation, their behavior will be documented using our classroom Behavior Reflections and communicated home using the academic planner. • Students will be rewarded for positive, helpful choices and ‘Doing the Right Thing’. • Students will receive: Verbal and Written Praise/Recognition Stickers Marlin Tickets Marlin Store Classroom rewards ***It is YOUR CHILD’S responsibility to complete daily homework assignments and get their planner and reading log signed daily. ***

  7. Homework Policy • Homework is reinforcement of skills learned in class. To help your child do his/her best with homework, please help him/her find a quiet place to work at home, help him/her decide on the best time of day to do homework assignments, and make doing homework a priority at home. Please look over your child’s completed homework each night and praise him/her for a job well done. • Students will be expected to do the written work on their own and ask for help only after they have given it their best effort. • All homework will be checked daily. If your child does not have all completed homework, s/he will receive a conduct mark in their academic planner in accordance with expectation #2.

  8. Homework Policy • Homework * Assigned Monday through Thursday (check homework folder) * Assignments should take about 30 minutes to complete each night and returned the next day. * Consists of Math ASTROS assigned 3 times a week. * Your child is responsible for turning in all homework assignments. • Reading homework* Completed out loud in the company of an adult, so reading strategies can be encouraged. * Assigned daily for a minimum of 20 minutes. * Sign the “Reading Log” in the student planner as verification that it has been completed. * Guided Reading books will be sent home daily in the clear pocket of the daily binder.

  9. Student Grades • TEAMS Parent Self Serve is a resource for parents/guardians to view their child's grades, attendance and discipline information. Email notifications can also be set to receive notifications whenever an absence is posted or for low grades or missing assignments. • Register to activate your portal through the Alvin ISD website or by going to https://teamsapp.alvinisd.net/selfserve/NewUserRegistrationAction.do

  10. Housekeeping • Please provide your child with a HEALTHY snack in the afternoons. • Please send a water bottle or allow your child to purchase one at lunch. It is VERY hot outside at recess and we want to make sure your child stays hydrated. • Please check with your child’s teacher for a class total if you are sending a birthday/celebration snack to school. *Cupcakes or individually served treats may be brought for the class *Served in class after 2:30 *No individual student birthday classroom parties are permitted *Parents do not go to the classroom for cupcakes/treats • Invitations: If delivered at school – must invite all students in class *School can not give student confidential information for birthday party invitations. • Please send a note if your child will be missing school, late or leaving early. • If your child’s transportation changes from the normal way they know to go home, please notify the front office BEFORE 2:30 p.m. • Frequently check your child’s teacher and Marek websites for any updates and changes.
