  2. Every 10 Years ABIM requires physicians who were certified in 1990 or later to complete the ABIM Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process every 10 years. The steps to take: • Enroll with ABIM. • Take the ABIM secure exam. Eligibility begins during the sixth year of your current certification. • Earn 100 points in Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge and Practice Performance at any time during the 10-year period. (Even after the secure exam)

Self-Evaluation Requirements: • Minimum of 20 points in self-evaluation of medical knowledge required. • Minimum of 20 points in self-evaluation of practice performance required. • Remaining 60 points can be from any combination of medical knowledge and practice performance. • The same 100 points can apply to each certificate you renew; for example, internal medicine and a subspecialty certificate.

Internal Medicine 2012 MOC Modules • Three 25-question modules. • Earn 10 MOC points per module. • Modules are free to all Internal Medicine 2012 attendees. • Modules available on Internal Medicine 2012 website im2012.acponline.org/moc • Preview the questions – determine which topics you need to brush up on.

  6. Internal Medicine 2012 MOC Modules • Topics questioned are covered in annual meeting presentations. • Each question is referenced to a session. • Questions cover a broad range of clinically relevant topics in internal medicine and the subspecialties.

  7. Internal Medicine 2012 MOC Modules • After the meeting complete one or more modules. • Score 60% or more and you can submit to ABIM for MOC credit. • Earn up to 30 MOC points.

Using MKSAP for Medical Knowledge Points MKSAP ® has been used for MOC points since 2005. • An application authorizing MKSAP 16 for MOC points has been submitted to the ABIM. • MKSAP 15 tests and MKSAP 15 Update tests can be submitted for CME credits and MOC points through MKSAP website. No charge beyond ABIM registration fee. • Use any MKSAP 15 or MKSAP 15 Update CME test record as long as you are eligible for MOC and meet MKSAP deadlines.

Using MKSAP for Medical Knowledge Points When using MKSAP® for CME Credits and MOC Points • There is no need to do separate modules - ideal for your busy schedule. • Simply earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and use the MOC Submission Form to apply for MOC points. • Apply for up to 80 self-evaluation points. • Points can be applied to multi-subspecialty certifications.

Using MKSAP for Medical Knowledge Points • For paper answer sheets, wait 4-6 weeks for a score report. • Enter the answers from your answer sheets into the MKSAP 15 Online Submission Form. • For MKSAP CME online, use MKSAP 15 MOC Submission Form to automatically transfer answers to the ABIM. • You will need your ABIM candidate number to submit through the online MKSAP 15 MOC Submission Form. • You will receive confirmation of completion and, within a few days, access to your MOC transcript on the ABIM’s website.

Using ACP Content to Complete ABIM Medical Knowledge Modules ABIM Modules: • ABIM Annual Update Modules allow you to earn 10 MOC points per module. • Links to ACP content are embedded within ABIM Modules for Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine. Visit www.abim.org for information. • When you click on the link, you will be prompted for your ACPonline.org username and password. The links to ACP content are a FREE benefit exclusively for ACP members.

Using ACP’s Live Courses to complete ABIM Modules • Learn through group discussions led by expert ACP faculty. • Fill in print-outs of ABIM modules so you can input them online later. • Complete two ABIM Modules in a single day – Updates in Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine. • Courses are held as pre-courses to the annual Internal Medicine meeting. (Some ACP chapters offer SEP courses.)

  14. New! Ethics and Professionalism Module from Annals of Internal Medicine • Read the new ACP Ethics Manual and complete a related question module on acponline.org to earn 10 MOC points for medical knowledge. • Free to ACP members and individual subscribers to Annals.
